Father Philip Robson, CM, is a member of the Vincentian Fathers, an order of Catholic priests in Australia. He was formerly a teacher at St Stanislaus College in Bathurst, New South Wales, where he was also the director of discipline.
Robson is listed at St Stanislaus in various editions of the annual Directory of Australian Catholic Clergy in the 1980s and 1990s. When Broken Rites checked the St Stanislaus College website on 18 December 2008, the website stated that Fr Philip Robson is still (as of that date) one of the Vincentians on the college's board of directors. The website said: "A number of Vincentians also assist the school by being members of the Board of Directors. Fr Akehurst is the Chair of the Board and other Vincentian Members include: Fr Philip Robson CM and Fr Maurice Sullivan CM. The Very Reverend Fr Greg Cooney is the Provincial of the Australian Province of the Vincentian Fathers and also regularly attends Board Meetings." In December 2008, the Sydney Morning Herald gave Fr Phil Robson's age as 60. The Australian Catholic Directory, published in mid-2007, gave Rev Philip Robson's address as 3 Vincentia St, Marsfield, Sydney. Other Vincentians who were listed at this address in the 2007 directory included Fr Hugh Murray (who was the superior there) and Brother John Gaven (who was formerly of St Stanislaus College). The web site of St Anthony's parish, Marsfield, says that, for part of 2003, Fr Phil Robson CM was Acting Parish Priest at this parish. In an article on a Vincentian website in September 2006, Fr Philip Robson said that he was then (in 2006) working at the Berne Education Centre, an independent special school in Lewisham (in inner-western Sydney). This school is named after an orphan boy in France, Jean Baptiste Berne, who was adopted by the Marist Brothers in the 19th century. Father Robson said that the Berne Education Centre caters for about 35 to 45 students covering Years 8, 9 and 10. He said that these students are deemed to be "at risk", having been unsuccessful, or problematic, in mainstream schools. Father Robson wrote: "I am a Counsellor at Berne and am responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of its counselling services. I also fulfil the role of the School Chaplain. Initially, I commenced in these capacities on just two days a week in 1998, the year the school was established, as I was also the Provincial Treasurer of the Vincentian Province. Since ... the end of 2004, I have been working at Berne four days each week... "The students are on a first name basis with their teachers and the school support staff. They also share the same community room thus having their morning recess break and lunch break with the school staff..." |
